Year In Review

Ok, I realize I haven't updated this in MONTHS. Which is weird considering I have spent the better part of this year with some form of physical ailment that kept me out of work or laid up in bed for weeks on end. One would think I'd have plenty of time to "blog". I still fucking hate that word by the way. Anyways, here's my review of the year 2008.

Lot's of awesome and non-awesome things happened we'll start with January and go till December.
January- not much went on that i can remember.
February- settled my workers comp case. $$$$$$$ bought alot of shit, broke some more shit.
March- no clue. did march even happen this year?
April - ReLoad's April Fools bike race was the highlight. broke 3 ribs that day. the begining of a long list of injuries for the year.
May- Got hit by car number 1 for the year. Tore a tendon in my left ankle and back wheel was destroyed.
June- Started couriering again. getting paid.
July- july 1st got hit by car number 3 for the year. destroyed my left hand (literally) fractured my cheek and sprained a bunch of shit. Sweet. couldn't open doors, jars, food, pretty much anything for weeks. if i wanted to eat or drink something i had to have a friend open it for me first. chong. also Restorations played their first show 2 days later, i played it. lot's of pain killers, itchiness, and space. went well for only being able to use one finger on my left hand.
August - was hot and I moved into my new house. which rules. have a roof deck attached to my bedroom and the biggest yard in Philadelphia.
September - don't know if anything cool happened.
October- went back to work and got hit by car numbers 4 and 5. didn't get hurt though. thank god. Also went to florida for The FEST. best weekend of the year so far.
November - tore my achillies tendon, fractured my heel and tore the muscle in the arch of my left foot. CHONG. didn't leave the house till the end of December.
December - sucked till x-mas day when I was ok with leaving the house finally. only went out twice but both times were with a hot babe. can't complain there at all.

Also recently found the musical stylings of Torche, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Isis, Pelican, Capsule, Old Man Gloom , Floor and others. why I slept on Doom/Stoner Rock I'll never know. But Torche may be the greatest band of all time.
Hopefully 2009 will be less painfull. But who am I trying to kid, one of the few good things I am good at is getting ridiculously hurt and not dying.

Maybe I'll update this more often. Next post will be my Best Of 2008 post for movies and music and whatever else I can think of.

till then go fuck yourselves.

Flyers Vs. Caps Game 4.

45 seconds into the game it was already 1-0 with a brawl. It was going to be a great game. And it WAS! The 3rd period blew the roof off the building, it was easily twice as loud in there than it was on Tuesday night. Unreal. We finally sat in a section where no one minded our rowdiness at all. I think everyone we went with went home with a blistering headache from screaming all night, and no voice at all. After the game winning goal in double overtime it was so loud I had to scream to talk to Kev who sat next to me. That was before we had a glorious pile on to celebrate in the stands. My rib, which I bruised at the bike race on Saturday, is full on raging inside of me now. So painful. I should probably go to the doctor, but like most american's I have no insurance. Bummer. It'll heal. This post is going to be short because in all the mayhem I don't really remember much from the game other than tons of heckle's, bryana being wasted by the middle of the first period, and a huge fucking win to go up 3 games to 1 over the sissy Caps. Oh I also made it into the Washington Post after the Tuesday night game. "Midway through the third period of this demoralizing 6-3 loss, 20,000 people in fluorescent orange howled for their World Extreme Cagefighters, and a crowd in the upper bowl chanted vulgarities at Ovechkin that went beyond the bounds of loutish fan behavior" Yeah that was yours truly starting that bit of trouble. USA! USA! USA!

good day. it's 80 degrees out, go outside dorks.

The Entire Last Week, Thursday April 10th-April 16th

Thursday brought the best weather of the year thus far and I spent from 11am till 9pm outdoors. My dogs probably hated it but the day was way too good. First KevSomm and I went to a few grocery stores looking for some grub, we found the most ghetto ass store ever up off of Aramingo and Castor Ave's. I blew a huge snot rocket in the middle of an aisle and as we left Kev almost fought some wigger. So we ride back home then head downtown to kill time before the Flyers Pep Rally. We chilled in Rittenhouse Sq and hollered at babes and somehow it actually worked. I yelled "yerp" at some girl and she turned around and came over and sat down and ate her lunch with us. AWKWARD! No clue who she was. Then her friend who she was meeting there came and did the same. Weird. Then Kev's girlfriend and her friend came. We were surrounded by babes. We also got some sweet flashes of the girls undies. More awkwardness. After this we went to 30th Station to see the Flyers off to Washington to start the playoffs. After that I went to Viva Las Vegans with my friend Chris who was at 30th St as well. That place kinda rules but left me even more hungry after I left. I went from there to 2nd and Market to meet up with Jon Louden, we went down to Jinxed to see Ralph and Shakey saw a shitty band crash their van while driving down 4th st and a bunch of weirdo's. Then up to the bike shop (how white of us!) where I talked to Bryan about my new bike. From here we went back to Rittenhouse Sq to meet up with Andrew to grab some Lazaro's Pizza for the Paint It Black pre show dinner. In the Square we had the most ridiculous conversation i've ever had with Classic Keg Stand Kenny and 2 other Couriers. Talking about jerking off while riding our bikes and wether it would be difficult to do or not. Turns out it is probably easy. So we left there and head down to lazaro's. We meet up with Scott, Tina, and Stephanie and grab food then head to Rita's for water ice. From there we go over to 13th and Sansom St's. for the Paint It Black show on the street. INSANITY. There must have been over 600 people in the street for this, the whole street was shut down and it was packed for a whole city block. There was even people sitting at the local restraunts eating out side on the sidewalk and had no clue what was about to happen. The sound was terrible, but the "stage dives" out of the tree's were outrageous. This will go down in history as one of the greatest shows in Philadelphia punk rock history. Then I went home.

Friday brought a quiet night watching the Flyers 1st game against Washington. Terrible ref's. As usual. Ended up losing and put me in a bad mood.

Saturday was Re-Load's April Fools Race. 350 people from RVA to Japan to NYC to who knows where else showed up.  Complete ridiculousness ensued. I met up with my fellow Team Brutaltron riders and headed to the Art Museam to start the festivities. I can't remember much since by the time we got done I was drunk throwing shit at people at the after party. However Team Brutaltron did win a brand new award named after our team from here and forever know as the Team Brutaltron Award For Most Awesomest Team. Stellar.

Sunday I watched the Flyers game, and they completely manhandled Washington. 3-0 win. SICK! After this I met up with a sweet lady Jessie and grabbed dinner at New Harmony then came back to my house to watch Trailor Park Boys. Then drove her home.

Monday hung out with Jessie again and watched a Buddhist movie at her house and she drove me home at 3am. On the way we get pulled over cause her headlight is out. On her way back home she got pulled over again by the same cop!!! Chong as hell.

Tuesday. HOLY SHIT. I went to the Flyers first home playoff game, it was fucking incredible. So god damn loud. Fuck Ovechkin chants, throwing soda at caps fans, and generally being out of control. Everyone we went with lost their voices, got headaches from screaming so much, and went home high from so much excitement. Seriously the best hockey game I have ever seen. The Flyers showed how much better and deeper the team is than Washington. Even with the ref's trying to give Washington the game AGAIN!, they held out and came on top 6-3. I've never heard a sporting event as loud as it was in that building. And rumour has it, you could hear the chants we started, Fuck Ovechkin, HHHHHHUUUUUEEEEETTTTT and ASSSSHHHOOOOLLLLEEEE. We came to get down and dirty and that's just what we did.
Then me and Kev Somm rode back home but I ditched him to go to Jessie's house which was on the way anyways. I was there till 1am.
Then I slept.

AWESOME.

Modern Life Is War, Braindead, War Hungry, Disnihil and Hallows. April 3rd @ the Church

I must have seen Modern Life Is War about 7 times before but never once actually heard them or watched them play. They seemed to play with bands I liked but I never bothered with them. Tonight was their last show in Philly, so I figured I'd give them a chance. Eh. I could do without them. They remind me of some band off of Revelation Records from the mid 90's but I can't for the life of me think of who it is. Kids were into them, but I dunno, maybe if I was more familiar with them it would have been better? They didn't really seem into it themselves so whatever.

Braindead was off. Esun I don't think could hear anything that was going on. But still they were good. Even know I heckled them relentlessly. But that's to be expected from me.

War Hungry had some good parts to their songs but overall I wasn't too into it. They could be alot better if you ask me.

Disnihil however were unreal. Heavy, noisey, and loud. ALOT like Unsane. Awesome.

Hallows- Learn how to sing asshole!

After the show I got a ride home so I didn't have to walk to the EL in the pouring rain, big thanks to Jon Louden's friend ( I can't remember his name for some reason) for the ride!
On our way to the car I ran into a real old friend Nell. She came up to me and was like holy shit Mike! I knew you were here, I heard someone yell "learn how to sing asshole" and knew it had to be you. We talked for a bit and decided that my ghost should haunt the Church and when it does people will hear heckling and not know where it's coming from and when ever there is a show, if they still have shows there when I'm dead, people up front will feel like someone is walking on their heads but there won't be anyone doing it, just my ghost!
That made me smile though, I felt like it made me a Philadelphia institution. I win.
Good show over all, and Zac from The Front Page and History told me that a band I used to be in, is what got him to want to start a band in the first place. My ego is enormous now. Look out!

LIghten Up, Stay Sharp and a bunch of other bands I've never heard of. 19th and Catharine St's THEN Weston @the Khyber.

Last night I rode down from Port Richmond to South Philly for this show. We show up at 7:15 and the show was supposed to start at 7 but no one had played yet. Typical. So we sat around watching the Flyers game, which they fucking won 3-0 and clinched a playoff spot!!!!, and made fun of people. There were some total babes there, mainly the girl Heather who lives there, and another babe who after saying she hated hockey, I told her she was ugly. So it goes.

Anyways Stay Sharp went on when there was about 5 mins left in the game so I missed 3/4 of their set. If their guitar player would have stayed plugged in they would have been great. Sorry Scott! Then after about 15 mins Lighten Up played. They sounded good even know Perry kept pulling the mic cord out of the PA all night long. We hung around for a bit afterwards and decided to head to Old City. I left the group and went to Govinda's and got a sweet fake chicken wrap then rode to the Weston show at the Khyber.

I got there just as the Ergs were finishing, which rules because that band sucks balls. I went in and immediately saw a ton of kids from 10 years ago. It ruled. Almost all of the crew from the 12th and Reed vs. 4th and Queen St wars were there. We all hung out caught up and had a blast, then Weston took the stage. Man I love this band. They played for like 2 hours which was way longer than needed. But they did play almost ALL of "Got Beat Up" which fucking ruled. They even played "heartbreak sandwich" which I have never once seen them play live before. This was easily the 30th time I saw them and even know they aren't young and hyper anymore, they were still alot of fun. There were some complete douchebags there but what can you do?
Push them halfway across the room so they smash their heads on the steps. Good Job Justin!!

Great night, Flyers in the playoffs, Good friends, and Weston.
A+

History Show In Abseacon New Jersey, March 25th 2008

So the night before the show I rode down to Josh's house to learn all the songs, as I would be playing bass for this show. We jammed them out for about 2 hours with about 40 breaks in between every song and I ended up leaving his place at 1am. Next day I only really remember 4 of the 7 songs but who cares at this point. So him and Justin pick me up at my house and we go to Jersey to grab the equipment. The drive down was pretty uneventfull aside from heckling random people on the way down and hitting up a Wawa and not paying for anything. We get to the house that the show is at and as we go in we enter the fucking twilight zone, seriously. There were 17 year old sluts drunk as balls wasting their lives away, mixed with late 90's wiggers, nazi skins, and wannabe tough guy hardcore dudes. All sticking to the same general theme of being complete scumbags. Holy Hell. No clue who any of the other bands were that played as there was a Flyers hockey game on and we spent most of the night watching that rather than the horrid bands we could hear coming from the basement. Flyers ended up winning btw, as I got an update while we played. During the band before us the kid who lived in the house decided everyone had to go downstairs and tried to turn off the hockey game, to which I told him "DON'T DO IT, DO NOT TURN OFF THAT TV MAN." It stayed on.

It was our turn to play and it went well and kids actually went bezerek. I probably played half the songs right, but I guess it didn't really matter as afterwards someone went up to Justin and told him he had seen them a month or so ago and that they sounded WAY better tonight.
Wild.
The ride home was filled with making fun of everything, then the bass player in The Front Page had to pee. Only Justin refused to stop. It went on for about 20mins with Teg freaking out about having to go and pointing out every place Justin could have pulled over to let him pee, but didn't. I almost pee'd my own pants from laughing at how absurd it got, till Justin finally pulled over and Teg pee'd on a tree while Justin kept driving away from him.
Then we got back to the city and I got dropped off and said hi to my dogs and went to bed.

Blacklisted Record Release Show, @ The FUC In Philadelphia

Now, I won't lie and say I love Blacklisted, I actually only ever sat down and listened to them twice the first time was years ago. And wasn't into them too much then, just not my thing really. BUT, since I was in a band with Bean (jon nean, guitar), I do go see them and live they are unfuckwithable. Today was absolutely no exception. I heard the new record a few months ago right after they finished recording it and while it's still not my cup of tea, they did get alot better.
Ok i will start with the first band I saw, Soul Control, Bean said they sounded like Burn, 108 and Quicksand. I didn't hear any Quicksand in them but he was on point with the Burn and 108 part. They were really good, and get huge points for being a heavy band and the guitarist playing a Fender Tele. Up next was Shipwreck AD, I left and went to Wawa and got Bean a coffee since he slept on a few minutes over the last 2 days. I came back and Let Down was going on, not into them at all, they sound like 97a an older thrashy hardcore band. kids like them but I don't see what the deal is. Up next was Cold World. Jesus, how many wiggers can you put in one band and still try and call it a hardcore band? I kid, kind of. They are terrible and yet kids were all about them. So much chugga chugga that i got super bored super quick. Either way, not into them at all.
Right as they finished however I threw my Vitamin Water bottle (empty) at Phil Saynich and hit him square in the face from 40 feet away. I yelled O'Doyle rules at him and told him it was his punishment for being "So damn good looking"
Then Blacklisted went on and I took up my handicap parking space on the side of the stage.

From the first note the place went apey, it was amazing. I haven't seen them here at home before, only ever seeing them far far away from Philadelphia and seeing them get less than a great reaction everytime, tonight was impressive. I may not love the music, but i can see how alot of people would. Bean can write some riff's as i already knew from our previous band before he joined Blacklisted. You could tell they were tired, but the crowd more than made up for it by going batty. George sung barefoot and stepped on a kids hand, gross as hell. hahaha
The rest of the after show was spent talking with George and Dan Yemin, then I went and said by to everyone and went outside. Then I ran into Bosco (my one roommate)'s FUCKING BOY IAN. Who offered me a ride home so I didn't have to ride my bike.
What a great dude.

Oh and Dave Sausage looked at me like I was a martian when I asked for 3 copies of their new record on the LP format. But agreed that I was a good dude for buying 2 copies for Andrew and Kev.

Good day, Fuck Easter.

Jena Berlin and Young Livers in Washington College Maryland Saturday March 22nd 2008

So our trip from Philadelphia started around 2pm. Me, Kev Somm,  Andrew and Heather and Rhiannon drove down to Delaware to get the trip started. Part of the trip involved going to the Christiana Mall so i could buy a new laptop. This part of the trip has been done before with great non-success. This time however we pulled it off and my credit card was actually approved! After that we walked around the mall for a hot minute and Kev told some girl that she'd be better looking if she wore less makeup. She was not pleased. But then another girl he told was a total babe and she high fived him. Delaware is a strange place indeed. Then we met Miss Delaware, and her grammar sucks. She spelled you're as your and when kev pointed it out to her she was real confused as to why that was wrong. Delaware is a strange place indeed.
So we left the mall and drove down to Maryland, passing the exit we were supposed to take by about 30miles, whoops. I guess i should have been paying attention instead of taking pictures of Kev sleeping in the back like a nancy. Rhiannon drove the whole way down and was a good sport with our ridiculousnesses. is that even a word? It is NOW!
So I navigate us another way to Washington College and we arrive just in time to sit around for a good 3 hours. We all, our crew and Jena Berlin and their posse went to get pizza and there was a forklift parked in a parking lot space?!? Maryland is a strange place indeed. So i hopped in it and got a sweet picture then we ate. Well they ate, there was nothing for me to eat so i heckled the employees to hurry up with Andrew's moz sticks. Which caused everyone to laugh.
They came almost directly after I yelled for them. I WIN!
We leave there and go back to the show and sit around for way too long. Watched idiot college dorks play Duck Duck Goose and got really offended by it.
Then Young Livers went on. I've never heard them before but since Andrew and I have pretty similiar tastes I figured if he liked them I would too, boy was I wrong. SIKE, they were actually awesome.  They only played what seemed like 5 songs though which was a bummer. Can't wait to see them again.
Jena Berlin went on next and the heckling was as obnoxious as ever. I don't think that stupid college town knew what was going on. They were good as usual, but played what seemed like 800 songs. Sorry guys, but that was way too many!!! Best heckle of the night was this:
"hey, page hamilton called he wants his riffs back!"
Then Heather who snuck a 5th of Jack into the building, got real drunk. To which I said to Andrew "hey man, keep our girlfriend we share from falling down will you?" and then once we were outside and walking to the car to leave "hey, pick up your end of this dating partnership and carry our girlfriend!"
I hope he doesn't get mad about our sharing a girlfriend sometimes! Do you Andrew?
Before we left though this girl from Boston told me one of my old bands was her favorite band ever. I still don't know how to respond to that kind of thing.
Then we drove home, which was all me, with an expired license no less. We got home safe and sound and it was a great trip indeed, we need more of these.

Riding A Bike Down Interstate 95

okay, i'm back and wiser for having made my great journey.i rode down to the pep boys on aramingo ave and went behind it to try and use the girard ave on ramp, got chased away by 3 cop cars as i split and rode back up richmond st then ducked down salmon and circled back around to lose the cops. (up the punx). i remembered then that there was another way onto the highway near the park i take my dogs to. so i rode down the while getting followed by another copper (they had to of radio'd to him i was on the prowl), i stopped and turned around and went to wawa to let the heat cool down. after that i rode back down to the park and walked through the field to the banks up to the girard off ramp from 95south. i climb up with my bike, and hop onto the highway. i rode up the off ramp to 95 proper. no one around for miles. like it was the end of the world. and i felt fine.took some pictures (which i'll upload this weekend when i get my new puter), and rode from girard up to allegheny and back and on the way back remembered i had a video setting on my digital camera that wasn't half bad. so i take it out and took a minute and a half video of me riding down 95 all fucking alone. hop off and relax, not for long though cause here comes 2 cop cars speeding down 95 south like a car chase was going on. i spot them early so i hop over the median and crouch real low, as they speed by i stick my hand up and flip them off (really upping the punx now!!!). fuck the coppers! anyways so they go by so i hop back up and ride around some more go up to a mid point between girard and allegheny and haul ass down 95 to the girard exit as i hit the downhill portion i lock my legs and do the most epic skid ever lasted 4 light poles long, fucking sick. stopped enjoyed the moment and rode home.fucking greatest thing ever. and will probably never have the chance to ever do it again. you're all sissies for not taking to chance.

only way this could ever happen is when a support column cracks and crumbles and PennDot shuts the highway down.

So in a few short (six of them) hours, the almighty Pink Razors from RVA will be playing at Circle Of Hope @ Broad and South st. in the fine city of brotherly love. Hopefully they'll play and sound better than the last time i saw them down at The Fest in Gainsville Fl. in October.

The Winter Needs To End

Besides the temp, it's windy as hell here today, yesterday it was 65 and poured rain all day. Today it's maybe 32 and windy as all hell. I'm sick of this crap. It needs to be spring now. Also why did we spring forward today? Weeks before Spring? Makes no sense to me.

Anyways today Kev Somm, Kras, Bosco, Andrew White, Moneybags and I went record shopping. I scored the following:

Gun's N' Roses - Patience 7" and My Michelle 7"
Bad Religion - No Control Lp
Screeching Weasel - How to make enemies and irritate people, my brain hurts CD's.
Seaweed - i forget the name of the record, it was their last CD released.
Shift - Spacesuit CD

And I got my new guitar amp yesterday. My neighbors hate me right now. Thing is LOUD.
Bike Race Next Weekend, Wild West Race. awesome.

Future Posts will include Photo's of Total Babes in the City Of Philadelphia.
